The Green Run Collegiate Foundation presents the eighth annual Bright Futures Gala fundraising event. The Gala will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, and will begin at 6:00 pm at the Town Center Westin in the heart of Virginia Beach. The first hour will be an open bar cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres, followed by a cash bar for the rest of the vent. Hosted by WAVY's own Katie Collett, we have quite an evening planned with live entertainment from the Green Run Performing Arts program, Green Run NJROTC unit, silent and live auctions, followed by an open dance floor at the conclusion of the program.
This year, our theme is "Building a Blue Ribbon Legacy." Green Run Collegiate was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2024 due to it being among the top performing schools for the past ten years. It was the only high school in the state of Virginia to earn the National Blue Ribbon Award. This is an incredible achievement considering that students are selected using a lottery process.
Proceeds from our annual fundraiser are always used to directly support student needs at Tidewater’s first and most successful public charter school. This year, the money raised will be used to
-
pay for International Baccalaureate Diploma and Career Certification Assessment fees, totaling $124 per assessment,
-
sponsor enhanced learning experiences and opportunities to develop workforce readiness skills
-
offer scholarships for students upon graduation
-
provide valuable resources to both students and staff
Funds will also be used for the 2027 summer programs offered here at Green Run Collegiate. The programs, co-hosted with three leading organizations in our region, Sentara Healthcare, Centura College, and the Virginia Maritime Association are designed for students to:
-
become introduced to the rigors of the International Baccalaureate program.
-
explore career options that are in high need within our community, such as alternative energy, maritime, and medical careers.
-
develop their financial literacy skills for post-high school success.
-
support them academically and emotionally to assure their personal and academic success.
Your attendance will help provide invaluable support to the students of the only public high school in all the Hampton Roads cities which has a 100 percent graduation rate each year of operation, even while having no barriers to admission and full school implementation of the IB curriculum.
Green Run Collegiate is a school like no other!
We are pleased to welcome back Katie Collett, morning anchor of WAVY TV 10, as our emcee for the event. Katie’s energy and passion for public education and young people is a wonderful addition to what will truly be an already amazing event.
